The tour heads out of Wellington City towards the Wellington valleys to explore other Lord of the Rings filming locations. Experience the scenes along the Hutt River featured in the movies as the location for the Great River Anduin, moving towards Amon Hen.

The next stop of the tour will be a visit to the iconic Gardens of Isengard before embarking along Highway 2 to Kaitoke Regional Park. Kaitoke was the filming location featuring a breathtaking rain forest which we grew to know in the movies as Rivendell.

At this point of the afternoon, we provide a complimentary lunch fit for a hobbit. After your energy is replenished, we embark along the routes that Arwen and Elrond walked in the Lord of the Rings movies. After Rivendell, we cross the swing-bridge to see the massive 1200-year-old Rata or find the Silver Fern – NZ’s symbol.

The Wellington Valley Movie Tour draws to a close when you are transported back to your pickup location, providing one last opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the filming locations. As you head back to the city, you will also get a fantastic viewpoint of Helm’s Deep and Minas Tirith as you pass the quarry where the scenes filmed. Ensure you have your camera at the ready, as this will be your final chance to take some fantastic photos before the tour ends.

It was a fun tour. The lunch was way better than we expected and the tour guide was gregarious. She even got down on the ground to take the photo from the angle I wanted. It was awesome. The only thing I would say is dress for anything. We expected it to be cold and it was boiling and I got a terrible sunburn, so wear layers and bring sunscreen.
