Private Game of Thrones Walking Tour of Dubrovnik + Trsteno Arboretum

Fort Lovrijenac, (also called the Fort of St. Lawrence in English) is nestled in the area just West of Dubrovnik’s old town. The fort is often referred to as ”Dubrovnik’s Gibraltar” due to its location residing at the top of a 27 metres high cliff. The fort spans three levels, and it’s unique triangular shape exterior immediately stands out.

The incredibly famous fort is seen as the iconic Red Keep on several occasions during Game of Thrones. One such episode is the tournament held on King Joffrey’s name day. Another memorable event is when Podrick, Bronn and Tyrion are spotted on the walls of the Red Keep following the Battle of Blackwater.

Dubrovnik’s West Pier is nothing less than stunning, offering spectacular views in person as well as on the TV screen. This location was used to capture King’s Landing Harbour in Game of Thrones, including the departure of Myrcella Baratheon to Dorne. It is further seen when Shae observed Sansa talking to Littlefinger, who offers her a way out of her desperate situation in Season 3.

A deleted scene which would have appeared in Season 3 also captured a moment when Tywin Lannister and Pycelle are sat on the edge of the dock fishing side by side.

The Dubrovnik City Walls are connected to Fort Bokar, providing defences from hostile attacks for the old town in as recent years as the 1990s. These walls were one of several locations used to represent Game of Thrones’ King’s Landing City Walls.

Fort Bokar is part of the Dubrovnik city walls, and has been around since the 14th century. The reinforced stone walls are referred to as one of the Middle Ages most fortified constructions, having never been breached. This is one of the filming locations of the King’s Landing City Walls in Game of Thrones.

Fort Bokar can be seen when Tyrion and Lord Varys have a discussion surrounding the best approach to protect King’s Landing as they gaze into the distant sea during season 2. In this same location during season seven, Cersei Lannister explains to her brother Jamie that she is planning to join forces with Euron Grayjoy.

Dubrovnik Ethnographic Museum dates back to the 16th century and is located in an old granary. Dubrovnik kept the reserves of grain in silos which were created out of a unique stone known as Rupe. This is the filming location of Littlefinger’s Brothel in King’s Landing.

In season five we discover that the High Septon has secretly been a patron of Littlefinger’s Brothel, paying higher-priced prostitutes for their services such as them dressing up as one of the Seven.

The iconic Jesuit Staircase ascends from Gundulić Square, and leads to Dubrovnik’s picturesque Jesuit church of St. Ignatius. This is the place where the memorable Walk of Shame begins, including the scene where the High Sparrow makes his speech before Cersei Lannister is stripped naked and is forced to repent her sins by walking down the staircase.

Rector’s Palace is located in Dubrovnik’s old town and was constructed in the 15th century. The palace was used as a seat of government in the days when Dubrovnik was an independent republic. Today, Rector’s Palace remains one of Dubrovnik’s most famous monuments and is now used as a museum.

Rector’s Palace has significance for Game of Thrones fans as the filming location of the Spice King’s Mansion. The palace is used to capture the scene where Daenerys Targaryen pays a visit to the Spice King’s Mansion in the city of Qarth, to request a fleet of ships to transport her army over the Sea.

The breathtaking Trsteno Arboretum is located North West of Dubrovnik. This is the filming location of the picturesque King’s Landing Gardens in season 3 and 4 of the Game of Thrones TV series.

King’s Landing Gardens is often referred to as Tyrell (High) Garden following the arrival of the family from the Reach. This location is featured when Sansa pays a visit to Lady Olenna Tyrell to discuss Margaery’s marriage to King Joffrey, and whether the wedding is such a good idea. Trsteno is used again when Oberon advises Cersei that he’ll send a present to Myrcella.
