Star Wars Tour of Kerry and Dingle

Awaken your inner Jedi on the Star Wars Tour of Kerry and Dingle. Discover scenes from a galaxy far, far away, on this scenic tour in Ireland.

When scouting for locations for the latest instalments in the Star Wars franchise, the movie’s production team settled on the breath-taking Skellig Michael. Having been a sanctuary for reclusive monks in the 6th century, it was the perfect location for Ahch-ToLuke Skywalker’s place of exile.

Full description

Since it first featured in ‘The Force Awakens’, Skellig Michael has become a must-see site for all Star Wars fans. On top of this, the surrounding Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula also provide spectacular locations and scenery connected with the movie.

The Star Wars Tour of Kerry and Dingle allows you to experience all the Jedi-related beauty that Ireland has to offer. The optional one or two-day packages will show you the most significant sites throughout this beautifully green region.

Day 1 – Ring of Kerry Star Wars Tour

The one-day tour will bring you through the heart of the Ring of Kerry. As you traverse mountain passes you will be treated to stunning views of Skellig Michael. You will also pass by the MacGillicuddy Reeks, home to Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s highest mountain.

Venturing along the Skellig Ring coastal drive, you will arrive in Portmagee. This small fishing village acts as the port for ferries crossing back and forth to Skellig Michael. The production crew made Portmagee their home while filming on the island.

Local pub The Moorings Bar also plays a key role in the making of the latest Star Wars movies. It is here that Mark Hamill (aka Luke Skywalker) hung out with a few of the locals, and even learned how to pull a pint of Guinness!

Please note: Trips to visit Skellig Michael are not included in this tour. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visitor numbers are heavily restricted and crossings are not available to tour groups.

Day 2 (optional) – Dingle Peninsula Star Wars Tour

If you choose to stay on the tour for a second day, you will travel along the Wild Atlantic Way, over the Dingle Peninsula. This is one of the most beautiful parts of the country and a place of pride for the people of Ireland. You’ll surely stock up on loads of great photos as you ride through the rolling hills and coastal landscapes.

On this route, you will also visit Sybil Head and Dunmore head. Because filming on Skellig Michael was limited to just four days, many extra scenes were shot in these areas.
